Degrees
In 2003 I completed my studies in History, Archaeology and History of Art in the University of Athens. As an undergraduate student I participated in the ERASMUS/SOCRATES programme in the University of Padova (Italy, 2002), where I developed a special interest in museology. I continued my academic studies at the University of Leicester, where I received an MA in Museum Studies in 2004.
As part of my working experience I took part in two excavations of the Greek Archaeological Society (Thera, 2000 / Archanes, Crete, 2000-2001) and in an excavation of the Greek Ministry of Culture (Heraklion, 2003). I have also worked as a volunteer in the Pierides Museum of Ancient Cypriot Art in Athens (2002-2003) and in the Wolverhampton Art Gallery (UK, 2004) as part of the MA work placement. Before coming to Ename Center I worked as an educator in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion (2004-2005), where I designed and implemented educational programmes for school groups.
CHIRON Project
The main focus of my research concerns the creation of a Heritage Interpretation Center in Heraklion, Crete. The idea for this project derives from a thorough and ongoing discussion regarding the interpretation of cultural heritage with my supervisor Neil Silberman. The design and realisation of the project is the result of effective co-operation with my colleague and Marie-Curie fellow, Evi Argyropoulou. Moreover, the multimedia team of the Ename Center will offer their expertise and experience to meet the technological needs of the project.
The Heraklion Interpretation Center will be designed and implemented with the administrative, financial and scientific co-operation of the Municipality of Heraklion. Its core activities will be the organisation of exhibitions, both permanent and temporary which will concern the history of the city. These exhibitions will underline the role of Heraklion through history as a crossroad of different people, cultures and religions.
The presentation will be realised and enforced through the use of multimedia applications. The active involvement and interaction of the people of Heraklion is of particular importance for all the functions of the Center. This will be established through a series of educational and community activities, but also through the creation of a specially designed web page or web site.
